Many of us are missing visiting Birmingham’s wonderful museums and art galleries while they are unable to open during lockdown. And they miss us!
In order to support the ongoing work of the museums, The Birmingham Museums Trust has sent out a further appeal for financial help. We featured their big fundraising programme in the summer, but they have now run into financial difficulties because of the closure of all their museum sites when Birmingham went into Tier 3, then 4, and then into the full National Lockdown over the winter.
The Birmingham Museums Trust is a very important Birmingham institution: It encompasses Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Think Tank Science Museum at Millennium Point, Aston Hall, Soho House, our local Sarehole Mill in Moseley, and numerous other historic houses and gardens around the city. During the lockdowns, they have continued to offer online tours, talks, education, and events, which can be enjoyed here.
However, The Birmingham Museums Trust is understandably struggling. It would be a tragedy if some of these museums, art galleries and historic places had to close permanently and Birmingham people could no longer enjoy and benefit from our heritage.
Let’s help them get through this new year, so that they’ll be here for all the years to come!
