Message from Moseley & Kings Heath Police: Increase in robbery

“Recent Crimes over the last 10 days suggest that we have had an increase in robbery from the person. These crimes seem to take place in and around parks, Cannon Hill Park in particular. Offenders described are of different appearance. What can be seen is that there is generally more than one offender.
The victims have been teenagers who have been using bikes in the park.
If you are a parent or carer of a young person, make them aware that they need to be extra vigilant in parks whilst on their bikes. Bicycles can be some of the easiest vehicles for thieves and vandals to target.

Protect yourself from becoming a victim by following some simple steps:
•Please be vigilant and observant of persons around you, avoiding locations that are secluded, whilst cycling in the park. Do not leave your bike unattended.
•Get a good bike lock
•Lock your bike to something secure, even if only for a few minutes and avoid isolated places – leave your bike where a potential thief can be seen
•Lock up removable parts (e.g. wheels) and take light fittings with you
•Have your bike’s frame security-marked or engraved. Register it here.
•Take a clear colour photograph of your bike and make a written record of its description, including any unique features
•At home, keep your bike in a secure garage or shed and keep the door locked.”
