Coronavirus Update 07.07.21

Birmingham City Council’s latest weekly coronavirus general update can be seen here, and their dashboard of Covid-19 information for the week ending 27th June can be seen here.

Across Birmingham, the number of cases increased by 886 cases compared with last week (2,467 cases this week compared to 1,581 last week).

Total cases rose in all age groups over the past week.

Hospital admissions range between 9 and 18 new cases a day (total = 97), similar to last week’s numbers of between 5 and 17 (total = 99). The average number of daily hospital admissions has been steadily increasing over the last month.  There were 2 deaths from COVID-19 this week in Birmingham, up from 1 last week.

The % of positive tests has also increased and, following a slight fall last week, the overall rate of testing using PCR, LFD or both has increased. All adults who don’t have symptoms should now be testing twice a week using the rapid lateral flow tests. You can order free at-home tests here, and testing kits are also available at our local network of community pharmacies.

Spread appears to be primarily occurring through household, social and workplace interactions, but it isn’t inevitable and www.germdefence.org can help.

People aged 18 and over are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Those who are eligible will be contacted by the NHS to book their vaccination, or you can book a vaccination, or manage an existing appointment, here. You can also schedule your vaccination by calling 119.

Full information on the restrictions at the current stage of lockdown easing can be seen on the government website here, and in our detailed summary here, which we’ve updated in line with the reduced changes in place since 21st June.
