Slow Food Birmingham Potato Project

“Charlie, a farmer north of the city, had his contract with a large food processing company cancelled, leaving him with a field full of spuds and no prospect of selling them. This is a significant issue occurring in our food supply chain as a direct result of the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Leaving the potatoes in the ground to rot would mean Charlie wouldn’t be able to use the field for two years, decimating his business. To make sure he can grow next season’s crop and remain viable, Charlie needs to dig up the potatoes and find new customers fast. Go to the website to find out how you can order 2kg of potatoes for yourself and donate 8kg to feed some of the hungry people in Birmingham.

Home Delivery – Morrisons

“Morrisons is offering a very useful delivery service to the elderly.

You telephone 0345 611 6111 and then choose option 5.

You speak to a person who takes your details and then they read out a list of around 45 items. You say YES or No to each item and, if you choose an item you say how many you want (1-3). They deliver the order to your door and you pay by card at the door.

I did this the other day and am very pleased with everything they brought. The only thing missing was flour. My order came from Small Heath, our nearest Morrisons.”
