Birmingham “Tips”

Birmingham’s Household Recycling Centres (also known as “the tip”, “Lifford Lane”, “Tyseley”, or “HRCs”) remain open, by pre-booked appointment only.

The booking system for Birmingham’s network of HRCs was introduced last June, in recognition of the fact that some physical distancing measures are set to remain in place for the foreseeable future.

However, residents are asked to think carefully about whether they need to visit the sites. Please remember that strict rules remain in place to safeguard the public and members of staff. The HRCs “are open for essential use only. This is for residents who have a problem with storing too much waste or have oils or other hazardous waste at home. Please think carefully before you decide to visit the site. Non-essential use puts yourself, other members of the public and our staff at risk from spreading the infection.”

Under the booking system, only Birmingham residents with a booking, linked to the registration plate of their vehicle, will be permitted access to the HRCs. There are no exceptions.

Households are now allowed to book more than one visit a week – but multiple bookings cannot be active at the same time.

The new opening times are:

Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm

Saturday & Sunday: 8am to 4pm

Bookings can be made on the website here, where you will also be able to check which items can be disposed of at the centres, and find more details of the safety measures in place.
