If someone gets in touch with you, out of the blue, claiming to be from the Council or HMRC offering you financial help or saying that a tax refund is owed to you – it could be a scam. Such messages are likely to ask you to click on a link where you will be redirected and asked to supply personal information, such as your name and address or financial details. Please do not click on the link and do not respond in any way to the message.
If you receive suspicious emails claiming to be from HMRC.gov.uk please forward them onto Phishing@hmrc.gov.uk or text 60599
Please check HMRC -related phishing, bogus, emails or text messages against examples published on the government website.
