Adjei Sun, Storm Beryl Fundraiser Show Friday 19th July, 7 – 9.30pm, Moseley Hive

A message from the event host:

“I’m here to announce to you that I’ve partnered up with @backtobooksbrum and @blackgirlsbookshelf to put on The Hurricane Beryl Fundraiser Show, on Friday 19th July at 7pm @moseleyhive. Join us for our family-friendly show featuring music, poetry, dance, arts, conversation and more. This is a pay on the door event and all profits go to The Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund.

Me and my family were checking the news last weekend as a tropical depression became a major hurricane within the space of a weekend, fuelled by warmer waters and a worsening climate crisis. We watched as it headed towards Barbados. Beryl began tearing through the Eastern Caribbean on Monday morning (my family living in this region are okay thankfully). Particularly devastating Carriacou, Petit Martinique, and the Southern Grenadines including Union Island where it is estimated that 90% of people are now homeless. Since then, the hurricane has swept across the region while devastating lives, homes and livelihoods, as well as impacting mental health and delicate eco systems. Since striking Jamaica, Beryl has today made landfall in Mexico and continues to churn away.

We are raising money to support the Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund by @black.curatorial @joinkwanda @blackeatsldn @twossaints and West India Cinema Corporation. Funds will be used to support people and grassroots charities in the region to directly help those affected by Hurricane Beryl. Particularly but not limited to Carriacou, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. As is said in parlance ‘one, one does full basket’. This event is a small way to come together, support one another, help our Caribbean family, and hold in our hearts all of those on the frontlines of the climate crisis around the world. Come and be part of this occasion.

Sending peace and wishing that anyone’s family members who have been affected are safe.”
